Choosing an Executor: What to Look For
OnlineWILL Team·11 Jun 2026
An executor is the person who administers your estate — collecting assets, settling dues and distributing to beneficiaries as your Will directs.
- Choose someone trustworthy, organised and likely to outlive you.
- They can also be a beneficiary — that's allowed.
- Name a backup executor in case the first cannot act.
- Discuss it with them in advance so they're willing.
Many people choose a spouse, adult child or a close, dependable friend. For complex estates, a professional executor is an option.
