How to Write a Will in India: A Simple 6-Step Guide
OnlineWILL Team·01 Jun 2026
A Will lets you decide who inherits what — and spares your family confusion and disputes. In India you can create a valid Will yourself, without a lawyer's office, by following a clear structure.
- Start with your personal and identity details (name, date of birth, PAN, Aadhaar).
- List the people you want to benefit — your beneficiaries.
- Record your assets and decide how to split them, usually by percentage.
- Appoint an executor you trust to carry out your wishes.
- Add any special clauses or personal instructions.
- Generate, print, and sign the Will before two witnesses.
That's it. Once signed correctly, your Will is legally valid — registration is optional.
